Independent Reading Requirement for 6th-8th

Independent Reading Requirement for 6th-8th

Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body! -Joseph Addison

We will enjoy books together in class this year, but you also need to practice reading on your own. Independent reading books should be read for homework 15 minutes a night for nights of the week and brought to Advisement every Monday and Friday for silent reading time. Sustained silent reading helps to improve reading stamina, and strengthens writing skills by example. You will complete two book projects this semester to show that you understand what you read on your own.

Book requirements: Please choose a book that will encourage you to develop a love for reading! Your book should be at your own reading level.  Middle school level books are around 150 to 200 pages.  Remember the five finger rule! Your book must be a reading book (not graphic novel or comic book!) Your book can be from the school library, public library, borrowed from a friend, the Book Fair, Amazon, or a book store. Independent Reading Project books must be approved by Mrs. Hull ahead of time using the Independent Reading Book Approval Form.

Find a book that you enjoy, and read it fifteen minutes per night, and bring it with you on Mondays and Wednesdays to Advisement/Study Hall!

You will be required to complete a book project chosen from the Independent Reading Book Project Menu by the assigned due date.
